Meet the Candidate

Francisco Tamayo

Immigrant. American Citizen. Technology Executive. Father. Your Neighbor.

Francisco Tamayo's story is the story of opportunity, hard work, and community.

Born in Tijuana, Mexico, Francisco immigrated legally to the United States at 18 with his parents, green card in hand, pursuing the same dream that has brought generations of families to this country. He later became a proud American citizen.

His journey began at community college. Francisco enrolled at Southwestern College right here in Chula Vista — and those classrooms opened the door to opportunity. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University and later completed the School Business Management program at the University of Southern California, earning his certification as a Chief Business Official (CBO), one of the most respected financial leadership credentials in California public administration.

That education launched Francisco's career as a technology executive, where he developed the operational leadership and problem-solving experience needed to manage complex organizations, deliver results, and ensure resources are used responsibly. He has led large-scale technology initiatives, improved operational efficiency, and worked to modernize systems that serve thousands of students, families, and staff across California. These are the same skills he will bring to City Hall — to help Chula Vista grow responsibly, attract quality jobs, and make government work better for residents.

Francisco also served as a leader in the California School Employees Association before being elected to the Chula Vista Elementary School District Board of Education. During his time on the board, he helped secure millions in school upgrades, supported the construction of three new schools — Muraoka Elementary, Fahari L. Jeffers Elementary, and Sonia Sotomayor Elementary — and worked to improve educational opportunities for students across the district.

Francisco first came to Chula Vista over 20 years ago — and he never left. He chose this community to build his life, raise his family, and serve the city that gave him opportunity. Today, his two children attend Chula Vista public schools — one in the Chula Vista Elementary School District and one in the Sweetwater Union High School District.

Francisco Tamayo is running for Mayor to restore opportunity, strengthen public safety, support seniors, and make Chula Vista a city families can afford to call home.

The ChallengeEl Desafío

Chula Vista is growing —
but working families are being left behind.
Chula Vista está creciendo —
pero las familias trabajadoras están siendo dejadas atrás.

Teachers, nurses, and first responders can't afford to live in the city they serve. East Chula Vista deserves the same services as every other neighborhood. Our seniors — who built this community — deserve to age with dignity at home. Francisco Tamayo's 6-point plan is built for the people of Chula Vista, not for special interests.

Chula Vista families are being priced out of their own city. Teachers, nurses, police officers, and city workers — the people who keep Chula Vista running — can't afford to buy a home here. Francisco will use city-owned land, streamlined approvals, and real partnerships to build workforce housing starting at $500,000.

"I walk into homes where professionals with college degrees can't afford to buy in the city where they serve. If you teach our kids, protect our streets, or care for our sick — you deserve to own a home in Chula Vista.""Entro a hogares donde profesionales con títulos universitarios no pueden comprar casa en la ciudad donde sirven. Si enseñas a nuestros hijos, proteges nuestras calles o cuidas a nuestros enfermos — mereces tener una casa en Chula Vista."
